British TV Presenter Michael Mosley Found Deceased on Greek Island of Symi

Mosley, aged 67, had been reported missing since Wednesday after embarking on a solitary walk along a coastal path amidst scorching temperatures.

Athens/Symi: British television personality and advocate for healthy living, Michael Mosley, has been discovered deceased in a rocky area on the Greek island of Symi, just meters away from his intended destination, local officials confirmed, as reported by the international news agency Reuters on Sunday.

Mosley, aged 67, had been reported missing since Wednesday after embarking on a solitary walk along a coastal path amidst scorching temperatures.

Deputy mayor Nikitas Grillis affirmed, “It is certainly him,” pending formal identification.

Earlier, police spokeswoman Constantina Dimoglidou announced the discovery of a body believed to be Mosley’s in the vicinity of Agia Marina, north of the village of Pedi and opposite the northeast beach of Agios Nikolaos, where Mosley had commenced his walk.

Another police official disclosed that Mosley’s body was found amidst rocky terrain, in close proximity to the sea.

Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas detailed the circumstances of the discovery, stating, “We analyzed the recorded evidence and it was obvious that it was, unfortunately, Mosley.” He added, “He was found 10 meters away from the sea, 10-15 meters from his destination, the beach of Agia Marina, between a fence and a path.”

According to state TV ERT, Mosley was discovered lying face up with his head resting on a rock.

Papakalodoukas expressed uncertainty regarding the cause of Mosley’s demise, stating, “It is unclear if he had an accident or if he felt unwell.”

The coast guard and firefighters were dispatched to the scene, as reported by a Reuters witness. A coroner was en route to Symi via a coast guard vessel, with plans to transfer the body to the neighboring island of Rhodes.

Mosley, accompanied by his wife, was last sighted alive at 1:30 p.m. (1030 GMT) on Wednesday, with his children arriving in Symi on Friday.

Symi, part of the Dodecanese island chain, spans approximately 10 miles (16 km) in length and is home to approximately 2,500 residents.

Mosley, renowned for his appearances on British television programs such as the BBC series “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor”, BBC’s “The One Show”, and ITV’s “This Morning”, gained fame for popularizing the 5:2 diet, which advocates intermittent fasting.

Dr. Saleyha Ahsan, who collaborated with Mosley at the BBC, extended her “heartfelt condolences” to Mosley’s family, describing him as an inspiration who dedicated himself to his work.
