Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewelry at Christie’s Auction House, described the Eden Rose as a round, brilliant-cut diamond weighing 10 carats, boasting a fancy intense pink hue and impeccable internal clarity.
While pink diamonds are already esteemed for their scarcity and allure, Kadakia highlighted the exceptional craftsmanship behind the Eden Rose’s cut. Traditionally, the round brilliant cut is reserved for white diamonds to maximize their brilliance. However, the transformation of an old South African stone into a round brilliant shape with intense pink coloring is a rarity in itself.
The diamond’s vivid pink hue is a result of immense pressure within the stone during its formation. Kadakia emphasized that the Eden Rose’s intense coloration signifies the substantial pressure it endured, adding to its allure and rarity.
What sets the Eden Rose apart even further is the meticulous hand-cutting process it underwent during a time when modern technology was not available. This manual cutting process, executed with precision and skill, enhances the diamond’s uniqueness and historical significance.
