Imran Khan Acquitted in State Secrets Case, Remains Incarcerated for Separate Conviction

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan received acquittal on Monday from a conviction related to state secrets, announced his lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, but he will continue to serve time in prison due to a separate conviction.

Khan, 71, faced a 10-year sentence from a lower court for allegedly disclosing a classified cable from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington in 2022.

“Thank God, the sentence is overturned,” expressed a spokesperson for legal affairs from Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in a post on social media platform X.

However, despite the acquittal in the state secrets case, Khan will remain incarcerated due to another conviction concerning his marriage to his third wife, Bushra Khan, which violated Islamic traditions.
