Singapore: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has delivered a resolute message regarding China’s role, or rather lack thereof, in the ongoing strife with Russia.
Addressing attendees at the Shangri-La Dialogue conference in Singapore, Zelensky unequivocally stated that neither China nor any other nation fully comprehends the extent of Russia’s impact on Ukraine, asserting Ukraine’s self-sufficiency in resolving the conflict.
China and Others Lack Understanding of Russia’s Involvement
“With all due respect, neither China, Brazil, nor anyone else truly grasps what Russia has brought into the conflict in Ukraine. We can end this conflict without outside help,” Zelensky emphasized during a press briefing, as detailed by Politico.
Zelensky’s remarks underscore a mounting frustration with the international community’s approach to the conflict, suggesting that diplomatic initiatives and high-level meetings have fallen short in achieving a resolution. He further criticized the ineffectiveness of the failed peace talks in Switzerland and the pressure exerted on global leaders, implying that such efforts have yielded no tangible results.

Dialogues with China: No Endorsement of Russian Military Aid
Zelensky disclosed discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where Xi purportedly assured him of China’s commitment to refrain from providing military assistance to Russia.
However, Zelensky pointed out instances where Chinese-manufactured arms found their way into the Russian arsenal. This revelation underscores the intricacies and challenges associated with monitoring and regulating arms transfers within the conflict zone.
Moreover, Zelensky revealed repeated attempts to secure meetings with Xi and other senior Chinese officials, all of which were consistently rebuffed. This apparent lack of engagement, according to Zelensky, indicates China’s reluctance to directly engage with Kyiv.
Despite Zelensky’s steadfast assertion of Ukraine’s ability to independently resolve the conflict, he signed a security pact with Sweden.
This agreement entails approximately €6.5 billion in military assistance to Ukraine until 2026, coupled with the provision of weaponry and equipment. This move seemingly contradicts his earlier stance on external aid, suggesting a nuanced approach to international support.
