Russian Missile Strike Injures 13 Near Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Prosecutors Confirm

Kharkiv: According to prosecutors, a Russian missile struck residences in Balakliia, located in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, on Saturday, resulting in injuries to 13 individuals, including eight children.

Photographs circulated online depicted homes in the town, situated southeast of Kharkiv, severely damaged and reduced to rubble. Reuters was unable to independently verify reports from either side, although Russia has denied deliberately targeting civilians. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, thousands have lost their lives or sustained injuries.

Kharkiv and its surrounding region have become a primary target of Russian assaults in recent weeks. Russian forces penetrated northern districts of the Kharkiv region last month, reportedly capturing approximately a dozen villages.

Military spokesperson Nazar Voloshin stated in a televised address on Saturday that Ukrainian forces maintained control over 70% of Vovchansk, a town located five kilometers (three miles) inside the border, which Russian troops have been attempting to seize.

Prosecutors also declared the conclusion of recovery operations at the site of three missile strikes early on Friday in Kharkiv city, reporting a death toll of nine individuals, most of whom were residents of a badly damaged apartment building.
