Itanagar: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched victory in the regional elections of Arunachal Pradesh, a significant state nestled along the border with China. Simultaneously, a local party has swept to power in Sikkim, another Himalayan state, according to statements from officials and politicians on Sunday.
The provincial elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim took place on April 19, coinciding with the initial phase of the national polls. Sealing its dominance, the BJP comfortably secured power in Arunachal Pradesh, securing a substantial 45 out of the 60 seats.
In an announcement on social media, Modi emphasized that the people of Arunachal Pradesh had unequivocally endorsed the politics of development.

Ashok Singhal, a senior BJP figure, characterized the results as a prelude to the impending national election outcome, slated to be disclosed on Tuesday.
“This is just the trailer before the real spectacle on June 4. The resounding victory that PM Modi will achieve has commenced with Arunachal Pradesh,” Singhal remarked.
While state elections don’t invariably sway the general election results, exit polls on Saturday hinted at a significant triumph for Modi’s alliance in the national polls, as opined by politicians and analysts.
In Sikkim, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, a regional entity that had previously aligned with the BJP during the 2019 national polls, secured a landslide victory by clinching 31 out of the 32 seats in the state assembly. Remarkably, neither the BJP nor the principal national opposition, Congress party, managed to secure any seats in Sikkim.
