As the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections wraps up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a 45-hour meditation session at the renowned Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. The revered site holds historical significance, attracting visitors from around the world.
Upon his arrival in the city during the evening hours, Prime Minister Modi initiated his spiritual journey by offering prayers at the Bhagavathy Amman Temple before proceeding to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
Modi’s meditation will span from Thursday evening until the evening of June 1, taking place at the Dhyan Mandapam, a sacred space believed to be where the esteemed Hindu philosopher, Swami Vivekananda, had a profound vision of ‘Bharat Mata’.
In anticipation of Modi’s visit, security measures have been intensified, with 2,000 police personnel deployed throughout his stay. Both the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy are also on high alert, ensuring utmost safety and vigilance during this period.
As a precautionary measure, access to the beach has been restricted for tourists from Thursday to Saturday, and private boat services have been temporarily suspended, as reported by PTI.
This isn’t the first time Prime Minister Modi has taken such spiritual respites. In 2014, at the conclusion of the election campaign, he visited Pratapgarh, a site of historical significance, and in 2019, he made headlines for meditating in a secluded cave in Kedarnath.
However, Modi’s current visit to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial has met with opposition from the Congress party. Allegations have been made that Modi’s meditation stint is an attempt to bypass the mandated silence period restrictions. The Congress has urged the Election Commission to ensure that media coverage of Modi’s visit is in compliance with the model code of conduct, filing a formal complaint to this effect.
