Cairo: Egypt announced plans to host a crucial conference next month aimed at uniting Sudan’s civilian political factions alongside regional and global stakeholders, according to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry on Tuesday.
The forthcoming conference intends to foster dialogue and collaboration among Sudan’s civilian groups with the overarching goal of achieving a sustainable and comprehensive peace agreement. Egypt aims to facilitate discussions that will pave the way for lasting peace and stability in Sudan.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a devastating civil war pitting the Sudanese army, under the leadership of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with thousands of civilians perishing amidst the violence.

Despite concerted efforts by prominent global and regional actors, including the United States, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, peace negotiations between the conflicting factions have thus far remained elusive.
