Apple Contemplating Logo Redesign for Future iPad Models

While a logo orientation shift might seem primarily cosmetic, it could signify a significant shift in the design ethos of Apple's iPad lineup.

New York: In an interview with Numerama, as reported by MacRumors, Apple’s industrial designer, Molly Anderson, hinted at a potential logo alteration for future iPad iterations. Anderson suggested that the current vertical logo may not be set in stone, implying that alterations could be on the horizon. Moreover, she delved into discussions regarding the orientation of the Apple logo on iPads when utilized with a keyboard case or in landscape mode.

While a logo orientation shift might seem primarily cosmetic, it could signify a significant shift in the design ethos of Apple’s iPad lineup.

Anderson emphasized that the iPad is crafted for use in any orientation, yet she acknowledged a growing trend towards landscape usage in recent years. Although her remarks were somewhat cryptic, they hint at the possibility of Apple aligning the iPad’s logo orientation with that of its MacBook counterparts.

While Anderson’s remarks lacked definitive confirmation, Apple typically refrains from discussing potential changes unless they are under serious consideration. This taciturn approach suggests a potential redesign of the iPad’s logo placement to better harmonize with landscape mode.

This speculated transition finds support in Apple’s recent relocation of the front camera to the center for landscape use with the 10th generation iPad unveiled in 2022. The same adjustment was mirrored in the newly released M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models. Additionally, since the introduction of iPadOS 14.5, the Apple logo dynamically adjusts to match the device’s orientation during startup.

Meanwhile, the absence of an update to the iPad Mini during the recent “Let Loose” Apple event has spurred speculation among industry insiders regarding a prospective release later this year. Bloomberg’s tech analyst Mark Gurman has hinted at this possibility, suggesting a potential debut towards the year’s end, potentially supplanting the existing 2021 model.
