Ukraine Mobilizes Prisoners Amid Russian Strikes; Airbase and Airport Targeted

Ukraine responds to escalating tensions by mobilizing prisoners, releasing the first batch of 350 incarcerated individuals to join the army.

In response to escalating tensions, Ukraine has initiated a mobilization effort involving prisoners, with the first batch of 350 individuals serving sentences released to join the army. This move comes as Ukraine braces for potential further aggression following massive Russian strikes targeting key military installations.

Among the targets hit was Ukraine’s Starokostyantyniv Airbase in the Khmelnytskyi region, known for hosting Ukrainian Su-24M bomber aircraft equipped with Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles. Additionally, the Zaporizhia International Airport, which housed a newly constructed passenger terminal completed in 2020, fell victim to Russian missile strikes.

The destruction of these strategic assets underscores the severity of the ongoing conflict, with the airbase previously earmarked for the deployment of F-16s. New footage has emerged depicting the aftermath of Russian strikes, including a devastating attack on the Epicenter store in Kharkiv, claiming the lives of at least 14 people, including a 12-year-old girl and her mother. Tragically, the remains of four individuals have been recovered, while seven others remain missing.

Russian aggression continues unabated, with reports indicating the use of kamikaze UAVs, Kh-101, and Kinzhal missiles in attacks on Ukrainian military installations. German Chancellor Scholz condemned the violence, revealing that an estimated 24,000 Russian soldiers are killed or seriously injured in Ukraine each month, attributing the conflict to the “imperialist megalomania” of the Russian President.

As the situation intensifies, Ukraine remains steadfast in its defense, utilizing all available resources, including mobilizing prisoners, to safeguard its sovereignty against external threats.
