New York: Elon Musk has announced plans for a groundbreaking supercomputer, dubbed the “gigafactory of compute”, dedicated to advancing his AI venture, xAI.
According to reports from The Information and Reuters, Musk envisions this supercomputer to be a powerhouse in AI processing, boasting the largest cluster of NVIDIA H100 GPUs ever assembled. xAI will collaborate with Oracle to deploy the supercomputer.
In a recent investor presentation, Musk outlined his ambitious vision, aiming to surpass existing GPU clusters by integrating over 100,000 NVIDIA H100 chips into the supercomputer. This colossal computing infrastructure will drive xAI’s research and development efforts, facilitating the training of complex AI models like Grok 3 and beyond.
Earlier this year, Musk introduced Grok 2, trained over a cluster of 20,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs, demonstrating the scale of his AI ambitions.
The timeline for Musk’s plans is equally ambitious, with xAI aiming to complete the supercomputer by fall 2025, with Musk personally committed to its timely delivery.
Once operational, the interconnected clusters of NVIDIA’s flagship H100 GPUs will represent a significant advancement in computational power, revolutionizing AI research and development.

Musk’s involvement in AI traces back to his co-founding of OpenAI in 2015, though he later distanced himself from the organization due to concerns about its profit-driven direction. This reflects Musk’s commitment to advancing AI research ethically and equitably.
Despite legal disputes and controversies, Musk remains resolute in pushing AI innovation boundaries. With the forthcoming supercomputer, xAI is poised to make significant strides, solidifying Musk’s legacy as an AI pioneer.
