Nepali Sherpa Achieves Historic 30th Ascent of Mount Everest

This achievement marks his second ascent in just 10 days.

Kathmandu: In a remarkable feat of endurance and skill, a Nepali sherpa guide conquered the summit of Mount Everest for an unprecedented 30th time on Wednesday, according to an official announcement. This achievement marks his second ascent in just 10 days, underscoring his extraordinary mountaineering prowess.

While it typically takes ordinary climbers several days to reach the summit of Everest, making multiple ascents in such a short timeframe is exceedingly rare. Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, successfully navigated the treacherous terrain of the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) peak via the traditional southeast ridge route, as confirmed by Nepali tourism official Khim Lal Gautam.

Kami Rita had previously reached the summit for the 29th time on May 12th. “broke his own record … this marks his 30th ascent to the top of the world,” stated Gautam, chief of the expedition monitoring and facilitation field office at the base camp, in a post on the social media platform X.

Having embarked on his first Everest ascent in 1994, Kami Rita has since made the daunting climb nearly every year, with only a few exceptions when the mountain was closed by authorities for various reasons. Notably, another sherpa climber has scaled Everest 27 times, holding the second-highest number of summits after Kami Rita.

Mountain climbing serves as a vital tourism activity, a significant source of revenue, and a major employment generator in Nepal, renowned for being home to eight of the world’s 14 highest peaks. Further details regarding Kami Rita’s latest ascent early on Wednesday are eagerly anticipated by officials.
