India Set to Ink 10-Year Pact with Iran for Chabahar Port Management: Report

New Delhi: According to the media reports, India is poised to sign a significant agreement with Iran on Monday, entailing the management of the southeastern Iranian port of Chabahar for the next decade.

India’s Shipping Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, is anticipated to journey to Iran to formalize this agreement, as per the report citing anonymous sources.

While the Indian government has yet to issue an official statement in response to these developments, the pact signifies a strategic move.

Chabahar port, nestled along Iran’s southeastern coast overlooking the Gulf of Oman, holds immense value for India. It serves as a pivotal gateway for transporting goods to Iran, Afghanistan, and various central Asian nations, bypassing the port of Karachi in Pakistan, a key rival.
