Jerusalem: Israel issued a call on Saturday for Palestinians residing in additional parts of Gaza’s southern city of Rafah to evacuate, directing them towards what it deems an expanded humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi. This directive signals a continuation of the military’s preparations for a ground offensive in Rafah.
The Israeli military also urged residents and displaced individuals in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza to vacate the premises, citing Hamas’ attempts to regain control in the region as the reason for the military’s return.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least 37 Palestinians, including 24 from central Gaza, fell victim to overnight airstrikes, with Rafah bearing a significant brunt. Among those affected, Khitam Al-Khatib, who lost several relatives in an airstrike, lamented the lack of safety in Gaza despite evacuation orders.
As the conflict persists, the situation in central Gaza’s Al-Zawayda, already inundated with displaced individuals, remains precarious. Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported striking numerous targets across Gaza and eliminating approximately 30 fighters in Zeitoun.
Tragically, a deadly Israeli airstrike claimed the lives of seven members of a single family in Beit Lahiya. Additionally, residents reported the presence of Israeli tanks in the area, further exacerbating tensions.
In Rafah, where 16 individuals lost their lives, residents expressed alarm over the military’s expanded evacuation orders, signaling a looming ground offensive.
Despite international pressure and concerns, Israel remains steadfast in its plans for an incursion into Rafah, a strategic move aimed at neutralizing Hamas militants embedded in the area.
As the conflict escalates, the humanitarian crisis deepens, with thousands seeking refuge in Al-Mawasi. International efforts for a ceasefire have faltered, with Hamas reconsidering its negotiation tactics.
