New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided insights into the changing weather patterns across the country. While heatwave conditions are expected to alleviate in the eastern and southern peninsular regions, a wet spell with thunderstorms is anticipated until May 10th.
Conversely, the IMD forecasts a resurgence of heatwave conditions in the west, particularly in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh, over the next five days.
For the northeast, the IMD predicts heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until May 7th.

IMD Heatwave Prediction
An Orange alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Telangana for tomorrow. Isolated pockets in Saurashtra, Kutch, and Gujarat are also expected to experience heatwave conditions during the next five days. Additionally, heatwave conditions are forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, interior Karnataka (on May 6th and 7th), and West Rajasthan (from May 7th to 10th).

From May 8th to 10th, East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh are expected to face heatwave conditions.
The Met Department anticipates a 2°C rise in maximum temperatures over most parts of the plains of Northwest India, except for east Uttar Pradesh, where temperatures may decrease by 2-3°C. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are expected to decrease by about 3-5°C over East India during the next three days, with no significant change thereafter.

IMD Rainfall Predictions
Cyclonic circulations over northeast Assam and northeast Bihar, along with strong southwesterly winds prevailing from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India until May 7th, are expected to influence weather patterns in the northeastern region.
The IMD press release forecasts “light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds” over the next 7 days in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

In addition, the following regions are likely to receive rainfall:
- West Bengal and Sikkim from May 6th to 10th
- Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha from May 6th to 10th
- West Madhya Pradesh on May 6th
- East Madhya Pradesh from May 6th to 9th
- Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from May 6th to 10th
- “Isolated heavy rainfall” in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and south interior Karnataka on May 7th and 8th
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana on May 7th
- Kerala and Mahe on May 9th and 10th
- Hailstorm activity is also predicted over south interior Karnataka on May 7th.
