While this evaluation recognizes Putin’s accountability for Navalny’s demise, it suggests that the timing might not have been orchestrated intentionally by Putin, as per informed sources highlighted in the report.
This deduction finds widespread acceptance within the intelligence community, receiving backing from key agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the State Department’s intelligence wing.
Consistently, the Kremlin has rebuffed any accusations of state involvement, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov brushing aside the Journal’s report as “baseless conjecture,” underscoring the lack of substantive evidence in the material.
Navalny’s enigmatic passing at an Arctic detention center in February not only exacerbated tensions between Russia and the West, already strained due to the Ukrainian conflict but also triggered significant unauthorized demonstrations, marking the largest since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
