Presidential Candidate Jill Stein Arrested at Pro-Palestine Protest

Tensions have risen on campuses following Hamas' October 7 attack, which led to casualties and hostage situations, and Israel's subsequent retaliatory actions in Gaza.

Washington University, St. Louis: Jill Stein, presidential candidate, along with her Campaign Manager, Jason Call, and Deputy Campaign Manager, Kelly Merrill-Cayer, have been arrested at a pro-Palestine protest held at Washington University in St. Louis.

In recent days, college campuses across the United States have become focal points of pro-Palestinian protests, sparking tensions and leading to numerous arrests.

Following Hamas’ October 7 attack, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the capture of over 200 hostages, Israel’s retaliatory actions in Gaza have claimed the lives of more than 34,000 individuals, according to Gaza’s health ministry. CNN’s ability to independently verify these figures is limited due to restricted media access to Gaza.

At Columbia University in New York, the epicenter of the demonstrations that commenced last week, protesters have refused to disperse until the university agrees to sever ties with Israeli institutions and commits to divesting funds from entities linked to Israel, among other demands.

Similar pro-Palestinian encampments have emerged at various other institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Emerson College, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Michigan, and the University of California, Berkeley. On Wednesday, nearly 100 protesters were arrested at the University of Southern California following a dispersal order issued by the police.

As tensions escalate, some Jewish students have expressed concerns for their safety on campus, prompting college administrators to face mounting pressure from lawmakers to address and contain the protests.
