Margot Robbie, the powerhouse behind the successful “Barbie” film, is set to expand her cinematic universe with a Monopoly movie. The announcement came during the CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas, with Hasbro and Lionsgate backing the project.

Having steered “Barbie” to box office triumph in 2023, grossing over $1.4 billion worldwide, Robbie and her production company, LuckyChap, are now poised to bring the beloved board game to life on the big screen.

In addition to the Monopoly adaptation, Lionsgate revealed a new project with horror specialists Blumhouse, reviving “The Blair Witch Project.” The collaboration marks the beginning of a multi-year agreement between Blumhouse and Lionsgate, promising spine-chilling thrills reminiscent of “The Purge” and “M3GAN.”

“The Blair Witch Project,” originally released in 1999, achieved cult status and forever altered the horror genre. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, recognizing the film’s impact on cinematic history.

Amidst Lionsgate’s impressive lineup, anticipation is high for the long-awaited “Borderlands” adaptation, directed by Eli Roth and featuring an ensemble cast including Kevin Hart, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ariana Greenblatt. Despite behind-the-scenes challenges and delays, Roth and Greenblatt exuded positivity about the film’s forthcoming release.

The studio also teased “The Crow,” a remake directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs, set to hit theatres in August.

Furthermore, Lionsgate treated audiences to glimpses of upcoming projects such as the “Highlander” reboot with Henry Cavill, a new Guy Ritchie action film titled “In the Grey,” and Aziz Ansari’s comedy “Good Fortune,” featuring Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.

The presentation concluded with a preview of Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” promising an immersive exploration of the iconic artist’s life and legacy.
