Chandrayaan-4: Pioneering India’s Lunar Ascent
ISRO Chief S Somanath announced the ongoing development of Chandrayaan-4, marking the continuation of India’s lunar exploration saga. He emphasized that Chandrayaan-4 signifies the inaugural step toward the ambitious goal of landing an Indian astronaut on the moon by 2040. “Chandrayaan-4 is a conceptual leap forward within the Chandrayaan series,” stated Somanath during a press conference. “Our honorable Prime Minister has outlined the vision of an Indian lunar landing by 2040, necessitating sustained lunar exploration of diverse natures. Chandrayaan-4 epitomizes this initiative, aiming to deploy a craft on the moon’s surface, collect samples, and safely return to Earth. It embodies the complete lunar exploration cycle,” he elaborated.

ISRO’s Multifaceted Projects: Rocketry, Satellites, and Beyond
Beyond Chandrayaan-4, Somanath highlighted ISRO’s multifarious projects spanning rocketry, satellite missions, applications, and technological advancements. “ISRO is engaged in an array of projects, including rocket launches, satellite deployments, applications development, and research and development endeavors,” remarked Somanath. “Our rocket projects number around 5-10, satellite initiatives range from 30-40, while application projects exceed hundreds, and research and development pursuits surpass thousands,” he added.

Gaganyaan Project: India’s Next Astronaut Venture
In addition to Chandrayaan-4, ISRO’s focus extends to the Gaganyaan Project, a monumental Indian space mission set to launch astronauts into space for a three-day mission, culminating in a safe return to Earth through a water landing. Prime Minister Modi recently disclosed the names of the astronauts selected for this mission, who are currently undergoing rigorous training in preparation for this historic endeavor.
