In a devastating incident, Stephanie Cosme, a 32-year-old civilian contractor with the US Air Force, lost her life after inadvertently walking into a drone’s propeller. The tragic accident occurred as Cosme, reportedly distracted, failed to notice her proximity to the aircraft.
According to an investigative report, Cosme, who was tasked with conducting data readings, did not look up to assess her position relative to the aircraft. As a result, she walked directly into the spinning propeller, sustaining fatal injuries in the process.
The report highlighted that Cosme was incorrectly trained, leading to a loss of situational awareness. A reenactment of the incident concluded that from Cosme’s point of view, she could not see the spinning propeller and was unable to hear people shouting warnings at her.
The untimely loss of Stephanie Cosme serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper training and situational awareness in high-risk environments. Our deepest condolences go out to her loved ones during this difficult time.
