Naypyidaw: In a significant development, the Karen National Union (KNU) has reported a substantial surrender at the Thingannyinaung outpost situated in Myawaddy Township, Karen State. A total of 617 individuals, comprising 410 soldiers and 81 relatives, have surrendered, as confirmed by the KNU.
According to reports from the Diplomat, the KNU disclosed that 477 military personnel and 140 family members surrendered in Thanganyinaung. The announcement was accompanied by visuals showcasing a significant cache of weapons purportedly seized during the attack.
While the final surrender negotiations of the garrison in Myawaddy remain unconfirmed, indications suggest it could be imminent. Allegedly, the Myanmar junta has made requests to Thai authorities to permit government officials, military personnel, and civil servants to cross into Thailand through the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, linking Myawaddy to Mae Sot in Thailand.

On April 4, the main pro-democracy resistance group in Myanmar revealed that its armed wing had executed drone attacks on both the airport and a military headquarters in Naypyidaw, the capital. However, the ruling military in Myanmar countered this claim, stating that they successfully neutralized the drones during the alleged attacks.
The opposition National Unity Government’s “Defence Ministry” released a statement asserting that special units of the People’s Defence Force deployed drones to carry out coordinated strikes on the designated targets. The airport compound, housing both military and civilian facilities, is approximately 25 kilometers (16 miles) southwest of the military headquarters reportedly targeted by the resistance group.
