Pakistan Court Grants Imran Khan Appeal, Suspends Graft Conviction Sentence

Islamabad: A Pakistani court has made a significant ruling in favor of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, granting him an appeal of his graft conviction and suspending his 14-year jail sentence, according to his party.

Just days before the February 8 elections, both Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were handed lengthy sentences for unlawfully selling state gifts. Khan, a former cricket star turned politician, continues to remain incarcerated following several other convictions that disqualified him from holding public office for a decade.

The Islamabad High Court has announced that the suspension of the couple’s sentence will persist until a final decision is made on the conviction. This decision will be deliberated upon with thorough examination of arguments and evidence after the Eid holidays, as stated by the party in an official statement.

Khan and his party vehemently assert that the legal proceedings against him were orchestrated with fabricated charges, aimed at sidelining him from politics at the behest of the powerful military establishment, with whom he had previously clashed. However, the military denies any involvement in such maneuvers.
