Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda has made a foray into politics by joining the Shiv Sena party. The momentous occasion took place in Mumbai, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gracing the event. Govinda is being considered as a potential candidate for the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency, representing the Shiv Sena party (Eknath Shinde).
Govinda, who had previously tasted electoral success on a Congress ticket from the Virar constituency, marked his return to the political arena by aligning himself with the Shiv Sena. His decision comes amidst murmurs of discontent among Shiv Sena leaders, particularly regarding the BJP’s candidate selections for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The official induction of Govinda into the Shiv Sena ranks occurred at the Varsha bungalow, where Maharashtra CM Shinde warmly welcomed the actor and former Member of Parliament from Mumbai’s North constituency. Shinde expressed his confidence in Govinda’s abilities, naming him as the party’s star campaigner.
In his acceptance speech, Govinda expressed his commitment to the party’s vision of development. He pledged to leverage his influence and experience in the realms of art, culture, and cinema for the betterment of society. Govinda affirmed his readiness to undertake any responsibilities entrusted to him by the party leadership.
Speculation has arisen regarding Govinda’s potential candidacy for the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat on the Shiv Sena ticket. However, the actor deferred to CM Shinde’s discretion on the matter, indicating that he remains open to the party’s directives.
Addressing queries about Govinda’s electoral aspirations, CM Shinde clarified that the actor has not expressed a desire to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Instead, Govinda’s focus appears to be directed towards contributing to the development of the film industry and supporting the government’s initiatives.
Govinda’s venture into politics echoes his earlier success in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, where he emerged victorious from the Mumbai North constituency on a Congress ticket, defeating prominent political figure Ram Naik by a significant margin.
With his charisma and popularity, Govinda’s entry into Shiv Sena’s ranks adds a new dimension to the party’s political landscape, setting the stage for an intriguing chapter in Maharashtra’s political narrative.
