14 Priests Injured in Massive Fire at Ujjain’s Mahakaleswar Temple During Holi Celebration

The injured individuals, including temple staff and the chief priest of Sanjay Guru, were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

A fire outbreak at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain on Monday left at least 14 priests injured, according to officials. The incident took place during the bhasma aarti ceremony inside the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, coinciding with the celebration of Holi. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted while gulaal (colored powder) was being thrown.

District collector Neeraj Singh stated, “The fire broke out during bhasma aarti in the ‘garbhagriha’. A magisterial probe has been ordered. Their medical treatment is underway.”

The injured individuals, including temple staff and the chief priest of Sanjay Guru, were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.
