Beijing: China expressed its support on Friday for potential actions by the UN Security Council aimed at halting the conflict in Gaza. However, Beijing refrained from confirming whether it would back a US-proposed resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated, “China supports the Security Council in taking further responsible and meaningful actions as soon as possible to make unremitting efforts to end the fighting in Gaza at an early date.”
The United States plans to present a draft resolution to the Security Council on Friday, urging “an immediate ceasefire”. Despite repeated efforts by the US to block previous calls for a Gaza truce, this resolution emphasizes the urgent need to protect civilians, deliver humanitarian aid, and ease suffering in the region.

While the draft resolution aims to support diplomatic initiatives for a six-week truce and the release of hostages, it has faced criticism for not explicitly demanding a ceasefire. Russia has labeled the text as insufficient.
When asked about China’s stance on the resolution, Lin Jian refrained from providing a direct response, stating, “The international community expects the Security Council to earnestly fulfil its responsibilities.”
He emphasized the importance of respecting historical facts and the views of Arab countries in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Lin stressed the need for a ceasefire and urged the Security Council to take decisive action to end the fighting promptly.
