A harrowing incident unfolded in Rajasthan’s Ajmer as the Sabarmati Superfast Express collided with a goods train, resulting in the derailment of at least four coaches and the engine. The collision, which occurred near the Madar Railway Station around 1:04 am, left several passengers with minor injuries.
Railway officials revealed that despite the loco pilot’s efforts to apply emergency brakes, the collision could not be averted.
In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a senior official of the North Western Railway confirmed the derailment of train number 12548, Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Superfast Express. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident.
Immediate action was taken by railway authorities, with officials reaching the accident site promptly. Additionally, an accident relief train was dispatched to Madar for track restoration work.
In response to the situation, a help desk has been established at Ajmer station, and a helpline number (0145-2429642) has been made available for assistance.
This incident echoes a similar occurrence in January, when two coaches of a Bhopal-bound express train derailed in Kota, Rajasthan. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in that incident.
