Kolkata: In a startling development, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) announced on Thursday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sustained a significant injury in an accident. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee reportedly rushed her to the SSKM hospital for immediate medical attention.
The news of Banerjee’s injury was disseminated by the TMC via X, formerly known as Twitter, accompanied by several photos revealing her with a bleeding forehead. In their tweet, the TMC urged supporters to keep Banerjee in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
The party refrained from disclosing the precise circumstances surrounding her injury. However, as per media reports, sources indicate that the West Bengal Chief Minister sustained the injury at her residence.
This incident follows a series of health setbacks for Mamata Banerjee. In June of last year, she encountered a leg injury during an emergency landing of her helicopter at the Sevoke airbase near Siliguri due to adverse weather conditions. This resulted in ligament injuries to her left knee and hip joints.
Several months later, in September, Banerjee faced another setback while traveling in Spain, resulting in a subsequent announcement by the Chief Minister regarding an infection that developed on her injured leg.
During the 2021 Assembly polls, Ms. Banerjee notably sustained an injury to her left leg while campaigning in Nandigram. Following the accident, the Trinamool Congress chairperson had to conduct her campaign activities from a wheelchair throughout the eight phases of the Assembly polls.
