Bhojpuri Super Star Actor and Singer Pawan Singh, initially fielded by BJP in West Bengal’s Asansol constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, announced his intent to contest despite withdrawing as the party’s candidate. Pawan Singh stated, “I will contest elections to fulfill the promise made to people.”
Meanwhile, TMC has nominated Bollywood star Shatrughan Sinha for the Asansol Lok Sabha seat. In the 2022 by-election, Sinha emerged victorious in Asansol after defeating BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul. Since 2014, BJP has been consistently winning in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency. However, following the defection of their MP Babul Supriyo to TMC, BJP’s influence in Asansol has waned.
Speculations abound that BJP has yet to withdraw Singh’s candidacy from Asansol, hinting at a potential contest there. Additionally, there are speculations that Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh might seek to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Araha constituency, possibly with the support of RJD or CPI(ML).
