Manohar Lal Khattar Steps Down as Haryana Chief Minister Amid Coalition Crisis

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured victory in all 10 seats in Haryana. The alliance with the JJP was formed subsequent to the assembly polls.

Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister of Haryana, tendered his resignation on Tuesday as cracks emerged within the ruling coalition comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A spokesperson for the Haryana government confirmed that Khattar has submitted his resignation letter along with his cabinet to the Governor of Haryana.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is scheduled to meet Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today to formalize his resignation. Following the dissolution of the cabinet, the BJP intends to establish a new government with the support of Independent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

“We have already pledged our support to Chief Minister Manohar Lal-led government. Discussions regarding the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections have also taken place. It appears that the process of severing ties with the JJP has commenced,” remarked Haryana Independent MLA Nayan Rawat to reporters after a meeting with Mr. Khattar.

In a last-ditch effort to salvage the alliance, Dushyant Chautala, the leader of the JJP, is set to meet Home Minister Amit Shah today.

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured victory in all 10 seats in Haryana. The alliance with the JJP was formed subsequent to the assembly polls.
