As heavy rains continue to pummel the UAE, residents and authorities are grappling with the aftermath of severe weather conditions sweeping across the country. With the bad weather expected to peak today, major cities including Dubai are facing torrential downpours, thunderstorms, and flooding, disrupting normal life and prompting precautionary measures from authorities.
A supercell storm has been spotted over Al Ain, adding to the intensity of the ongoing weather phenomenon. Roads, beaches, and popular attractions like the Global Village have been affected, leading to a full list of closures due to the relentless rain.
Throughout the night, heavy showers have drenched various parts of the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Ajman. The National Centre of Meteorology has warned that unstable weather conditions will persist throughout the day.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken proactive steps to ensure public safety. Intercity bus services between Dubai and Sharjah have been temporarily halted (Route E315), while ferry and water taxi operations in Dubai have been suspended until further notice.
Residents are strongly advised to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, as the severe weather is expected to peak until evening, with rainfall forecasted to continue until Sunday noon. Along major roadways such as Sheikh Zayed Road, pools of water have accumulated, causing traffic disruptions and prompting motorists to seek alternative routes.
Nasreen Abdulla, a Dubai resident, recounted her experience navigating the flooded streets, stating, “The exit from the service road to Sheikh Zayed Road near the first interchange is so flooded that cars are turning around and people are taking alternative routes.”As the UAE grapples with the ongoing weather challenges, authorities and residents alike remain vigilant, prioritizing safety amidst the unpredictable conditions.
