Dharamshala: In a remarkable display of talent, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Team India’s young opening sensation, etched his name in cricketing history by surpassing renowned predecessors to become the highest run-scorer in a Test series for India against England. This feat unfolded during the fifth and final Test match at Dharamshala, where Jaiswal’s innings on Day 1 propelled him past the 700-run milestone for the ongoing series against England.
Jaiswal’s pivotal half-century at the HPCA Ground on Thursday elevated his series tally to 712 runs against the English team, overshadowing the achievements of esteemed figures in Indian cricket.
Former Indian captain and batting maestro Virat Kohli previously held the record, accumulating 655 runs during the home series against England in 2016. However, Jaiswal’s stellar performance at the picturesque stadium in Himachal Pradesh marked a historic shift in this domain.

Legendary Rahul Dravid’s 602 runs against England in 2002 now rank third on the list, followed by Kohli’s 593 runs in the 2018 home series against England. Vijay Manjrekar’s 586 runs in the 1961/62 series against England in India secured the fifth position, preceding Sunil Gavaskar’s 542 runs away from home in the 1979 season.
In the final Test of the series, England elected to bat first but was swiftly dismissed for 218 runs, courtesy of the exceptional performance by the Indian spin unit. Left-arm leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav led the charge with a five-wicket haul, dismantling key English batters including Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, and skipper Ben Stokes.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja further contributed by claiming the wicket of veteran batsman Joe Root for 26 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin, marking his 100th Test appearance, concluded the English innings with dismissals of Tom Hartley, Mark Wood, Ben Foakes, and James Anderson before the Indian batting lineup took the field.
