Mumbai: The upcoming film “Swatantra Veer Savarkar,” starring Randeep Hooda, has found itself embroiled in controversy. This biopic of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar not only marks Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut but also features him in the lead role.
The recently released trailer unveiled a historic encounter between two influential leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Veer Savarkar, underscoring their divergent ideologies during India’s struggle for independence. Additionally, glimpses of key figures like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Madanlal Dhingra, Bhagat Singh, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hint at the intricate political landscape of the era.
Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of Netaji, voiced his concerns regarding the film, urging the makers to avoid associating Subhash Chandra Bose’s name with Savarkar. In a message directed at Randeep Hooda and accompanied by a link to an India Today article, he emphasized, “@RandeepHooda – appreciate your making a film on ‘Savarkar’, but its important to project the true personality! Please refrain from linking ‘Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s’ name with Savarkar. Netaji was an inclusive secular leader & patriot of patriots”.
