In a thrilling showdown between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Women’s Premier League 2024, Mumbai Indians’ pace bowler Shabnim Ismail achieved a remarkable feat, setting a new world record for the fastest delivery in women’s cricket history.
Ismail, a renowned South African speedster, unleashed a thunderous delivery clocking in at an astounding 132.1 kilometers per hour during the clash. Although the ball resulted in a not-out decision after striking Meg Lanning’s pads, Ismail secured her place in the annals of cricket history with this remarkable achievement.
Despite her record-breaking performance, Ismail faced challenges with the ball throughout the match. Conceding 46 runs in just four overs and taking only one wicket, the Proteas star expressed disappointment with her overall performance. “Very disappointed in my bowling (tonight). There were a few misfields and dropped chances. Hopefully, we can chase this target down,” she remarked.
Notably, prior to Ismail’s record-breaking delivery, claims were made by RCB and WPL regarding Ellyse Perry’s world record for the fastest ball in women’s cricket. RCB asserted that Perry had previously achieved a speed of 130.5 kilometers per hour during the last edition of WPL, earning her recognition for the fastest ball in women’s cricket at that time.
