Munich: In a significant diplomatic exchange, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reassured Ukraine that China refrains from supplying lethal weaponry to Russia in its conflict against Kyiv.
Addressing Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba during a meeting at a security conference in Munich, Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to neutrality, asserting that China does not exploit the situation by arming conflict zones or parties involved in the conflict.
China’s relationship with Russia has undergone substantial growth in recent years, leading to allegations of China supplying lethal arms to Russia, especially as tensions escalated between Moscow and the West over sanctions imposed due to the Ukraine war.
However, China has consistently refuted these accusations.
Wang Yi’s statement reinforces China’s longstanding neutral stance since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict.
“While the international landscape evolves, China hopes for the normal development of China-Ukraine relations, benefiting both nations’ peoples,” Wang told Kuleba, as per the ministry’s report.
“I express gratitude to Ukraine for assisting in the safe evacuation of Chinese nationals during emergency situations. The Chinese people will forever remember this act of kindness,” the report highlighted.
Wang reiterated China’s commitment to political resolutions for volatile issues and emphasized the importance of peace negotiations.
“We will persist in playing a constructive role in hastening an end to the conflict and reinstating peace,” Wang assured Kuleba.
“Even in the faintest glimmer of hope for peace, China will persist in its endeavors.”
