Japan: Innovative Ski Resort Services, Including Drone Dining Delivery

Visitors can enjoy high-end French cuisine delivered by drones to an observation area on Mount Usu, providing a unique and memorable dining experience.

Hokkaido: The government of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture, is spearheading a trial of cutting-edge, luxury amenities at its renowned ski resorts and slopes, including the pioneering use of drones for high-end dining experiences atop Mount Usu in SOBETSU.

On February 7, at an observation area nestled on Mount Usu, Masahiro Taguchi, a 50-year-old Sapporo resident, savored a sumptuous French meal with a smile. Reflecting on the unique experience, he remarked, “Even though this is a test, it’s been a first-of-its-kind experience and the memory of a lifetime. If they turn it into a new service, I want to come back in my free time.”

The trial aims to explore innovative ways to enhance visitor experiences and elevate the reputation of Hokkaido’s ski resorts, catering to discerning guests seeking upscale amenities and unforgettable moments amidst breathtaking natural landscapes.

As part of the trial, Hokkaido’s government is collaborating with local businesses to deliver gourmet dining experiences directly to ski enthusiasts at Mount Usu’s peak using drone technology. This initiative not only showcases the region’s commitment to innovation but also highlights its dedication to providing unparalleled services for visitors seeking luxury and adventure in Hokkaido’s picturesque surroundings. With the successful reception from guests like Masahiro Taguchi, there is promising potential for the integration of these upscale offerings into Hokkaido’s ski resort scene, promising a new era of elevated experiences for winter sports enthusiasts.
