New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) demonstrated its prowess during the Vayu Shakti power exercise held at the Pokhran range near Jaisalmer, showcasing both offensive and defensive capabilities.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that the event, held on February 17, 2024, witnessed thunderous explosions and resounding applause as the IAF exhibited its firepower.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, and other dignitaries attended the event, highlighting its significance.
The live demonstration was broadcasted on various social media platforms, enabling citizens to witness the spectacle remotely.
The exercise commenced with Chetak helicopters hoisting the National Flag and Air Force banner, accompanied by the National Anthem, symbolizing India’s military supremacy and honoring the dedication of IAF personnel.
In line with India’s self-reliance initiative, the indigenous Tejas aircraft showcased its capabilities, while a long-range unmanned drone demolished a simulated enemy radar post.
A highlight of the event was the precision strikes by various fighter aircraft, including the Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29, Mirage-2000, Tejas, and Hawk, targeting simulated enemy installations on the ground and in the air.
Noteworthy firsts included Apache attack helicopters employing air-to-ground guided rockets and Chinook helicopters showcasing fast deployment capabilities by airlifting M-777 Ultra-Light Howitzers.
Special forces demonstrated urban incursion techniques, while indigenous Air Defence Systems (Akash and SAMAR missile systems) engaged multiple aerial targets. The indigenous Light Combat Helicopter ‘Prachand’ neutralized designated targets with rockets during nighttime activities.
The event concluded with a free-fall drop by the Akash Ganga team and flares dispensed by C-130J aircraft, accompanied by a tri-service band, highlighting cooperation across the armed forces.
Approximately 50 tons of ordnance were deployed during the two-hour display, underscoring the IAF’s offensive lethality and precision targeting capabilities.
