New York: West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has made a fervent plea to US Vice President Harris, urging her to invoke the 25th Amendment and initiate the removal of President Joe Biden from office. Morrisey cited concerns regarding the 81-year-old Democrat’s physical and mental fitness to effectively discharge his presidential duties.
Morrisey’s call follows the release of a comprehensive 388-page special counsel report, which characterized President Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” The attorney general asserted that the findings of the report underscored significant apprehensions about Biden’s cognitive abilities, necessitating urgent action.
In a direct appeal to Vice President Harris, Morrisey, a Republican, emphasized, “For too long, Americans have had to stand by and watch as their President has experienced a profound cognitive decline.” He highlighted instances where Biden’s purported cognitive deterioration was evident during public appearances and diplomatic engagements.
“The 25th Amendment, enacted by Congress in 1965 to clarify presidential succession after the assassination of former President Kennedy, provides provisions for the vice president and the Cabinet to remove a president from office if they are deemed physically or mentally incapable,” Morrisey elucidated, underlining the legal grounds for his appeal.
While the 25th Amendment has never been invoked in the annals of US history, Morrisey’s entreaty echoes sentiments expressed by several other Republicans in recent weeks, including Representative Claudia Tenney and former President Trump, who broached the idea in September last year.
The Biden administration has vehemently rebutted allegations of cognitive decline, staunchly affirming the president’s capacity to govern effectively notwithstanding his advanced age.
