Elon Musk Declares: ‘I will discontinue my phone number’, shifting solely to X for calls and texts

New York: Elon Musk is reinforcing X’s calling capabilities (formerly Twitter). Last year, X introduced video and audio calling for a select group of users, a move disclosed by Musk. Since then, he’s been advocating for X to morph into an “everything app”, branding it as an “early version of video & audio calling on X”.

“In a few months, I will discontinue my phone number and only use X for texts and audio/video calls,” he tweeted on Friday.

This recent enhancement comes amidst a wave of changes to the platform’s core experience under Musk’s leadership, following his acquisition of the social media company nearly a year ago. After rebranding Twitter as X, Musk signaled his intent to shape the platform into a super-app, offering a wide range of services including messaging, social networking, and peer-to-peer payments.

Teasing the feature in August last year, Musk mentioned that users wouldn’t need a phone number to access these functionalities, which are compatible with Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and personal computers.
