Russia Sends 130 Tonnes of Sunflower Oil to Sri Lanka Amid Global Food Crisis

Solar storm will pose risks to Earth’s technology and atmosphere

In response to the escalating global food crisis, Russia has demonstrated solidarity by dispatching 130 tonnes of sunflower oil to Sri Lanka as part of the UN World Food Programme. This delivery follows a substantial shipment sent last September, almost triple in size.

The aid arrives at a critical time as consumer price inflation in Sri Lanka rose to 4.2% in December, contributing to an increase in the overall cost of food. The nation, grappling with economic challenges, witnessed a staggering 70% inflation in September 2022 during the peak of its financial crisis.

This initiative underscores the importance of international collaboration and assistance in addressing the pressing issue of food security. Russia’s continued support contributes to the ongoing efforts to alleviate hunger and ensure access to essential food resources in regions facing economic hardships.
