Taiwan Donates Over $17 Million to Help Japan After Earthquake

Taiwan's Generous Support Extends a Helping Hand to Japan's Recovery from Recent Earthquake Tragedy

In a display of solidarity and compassion, Taiwan has rallied support from the private sector, raising over NT$540 million ($17.2 million) in a fundraising campaign aimed at aiding Japan’s recovery from a devastating earthquake that struck three weeks ago, claiming the lives of more than 200 people. The island’s Health and Welfare Ministry shared this uplifting news on Monday.

Throughout the two-week campaign, which concluded last Friday, a remarkable NT$541,589,468 was raised through the generosity of more than 134,000 donations, highlighting the collective empathy of the Taiwanese community. Additionally, the Taiwanese government extended a helping hand by offering Japan 60 million yen ($405,000) to support the ongoing recovery efforts.

Major financial service provider Cathay Financial Holdings played a significant role in this charitable initiative by contributing 60 million yen. The parent company expressed its sincere hope that this contribution will aid in the rebuilding of homes and help those affected navigate through challenging times.

The heartfelt response from Taiwan underscores the spirit of international cooperation and the willingness of nations to stand united in times of crisis. As Japan continues to grapple with the aftermath of the earthquake, Taiwan’s substantial contribution serves as a beacon of hope and solidarity in the face of adversity.
