Imran Khan: “All cases against me will end if…”

Islamabad: In a daring statement from Adiala Jail, Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, asserted that compliance with influential forces could resolve all legal cases against him. This proclamation implies a crucial turning point in his ongoing legal battles.

The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) further elaborated on his audacity in exposing a conspiracy, particularly referencing the cipher case. He criticized the perceived lack of neutrality in the caretaker government and the practical ineffectiveness of the Election Commission.

After a court hearing on Friday, Khan addressed reporters, pointing to the resolution of Toshakhana cases involving figures like Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. Notably, Maryam Nawaz’s case, related to an undisclosed BMW from Toshakhana, was reportedly settled as well. Despite Maryam’s four flats implicated in the Panama case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) withdrew from pursuing charges in that matter, according to Khan.

At 71, Imran Khan disclosed being entangled in over 200 criminal cases, a historic high in Pakistan. Expressing frustration, he emphasized the pattern of being granted bail in one case only to face new charges shortly afterward.

The former cricket star turned politician voiced concerns about the absence of the rule of law in the country, attributing it as a hindrance to Pakistan’s progress.

Despite being incarcerated since August of the previous year, Khan revealed on Saturday that he was unaware of the distribution of party tickets among candidates. Internal strife within PTI became evident as allegations of unfair ticket distribution, favoring ex-lawmakers and influential personalities, surfaced. PTI workers within Adiala Jail premises conveyed their grievances against the perceived injustice.

Responding to the criticism, Khan, still behind bars, asserted that he was not consulted about the ticket distribution and questioned how he could decide on 850 tickets verbally. The internal divisions within PTI have come to the fore, fueled by reports of disregarding merit in the allocation of tickets.

Imran Khan’s arrest on Tuesday by Rawalpindi police in connection to a dozen cases related to the May 9 violence, including the attack on the army headquarters, adds another layer to the complex web of legal challenges faced by the prominent political figure.
